Gina Fischli

Gina Fischli’s interest in everyday objects, unusual and seemingly useless materials and handicraft production techniques finds expression in her sculpture Next Day Delivery (2025). In this small ashtray filled with cigarette butts, all the playful and evocative humor of the artist surfaces, an artist’s whose training as a set designer has drawn an attention to the minor details of space, often true receptacles of stories. This sculpture tells a story of a stressed-out person struggling to meet the “next day delivery” and accidentally making a sculpture while chain smoking. In Fischli’s practice, even a small pile of waste can become an object of desire and a vehicle for a story, hiding storytelling ideas in which everyone can find a memory, a suggestion, an image of something they have experienced.
