Karl Holmqvist

Written and spoken language form the basis of Karl Holmqvist’s practice. Repeated in memory or in prints as patterns words find new uses beyond their mere meaning. For Basement Art Assembly Biennial the walls of the space are wallpapered with posters with the text of Holmqvist’s most recent publication Berlin Trilogy PART I—a reworking of lyrics by David Bowie, Lou Reed and Nina Hagen among many others as a comment on the state of things in today’s world. A wall of thoughts or a type of backdrop that may resonate with viewers recognition of a line here and there as they repeat themselves insistently.
